Indicators which often don’t indicate !!

For urban cities like Bangalore where vehicles move closer than people, I strongly believe that Indication System has to be revised.

Consider a situation like this

A teenager riding scooty in front of you; takes a turn towards some random direction out of nowhere without a prior indication. Sounds familiar?

Not just these, there are many issues like these which we have to encounter on road on a day to day basis. Such blunders on road make many people’s life miserable. It’s just too hard to teach awareness about road sense (forget about the teaching traffic rules) to people.

Well my focus is to not to delve deep into the problem, but rather I have an idea which I feel can be implemented to reduce these kind of chaos on road.

Consider the case where a young citizen immediately takes a turn without turning on his indicator. There is a huge crowd out there who are too lazy to use indicators and few do it unknowingly. Such cases are a very common issue and the price we get to pay ranges from a fine to serious injuries and life loss.

Solution: To handle this how about having a system in vehicle which would monitor such turn of handle/steering and automatically turns on the respective indicator along with a loud buzzer sound which helps the people behind. The automatic switching would get activated only when the normal indicator is not set.

Difference it makes: The loud annoying buzzer would make the rider feel embarrassed and guilty about the mistake and also it would definitely alert others. When riders start using such system, the mind gradually gets accustomed to the fact that a mistake on road now won’t get unnoticed. We all know that none of us would really enjoy unwanted attention. This would for sure make a huge difference. What do you say?

Places like India where roads get a makeover during election period, we can’t wait for better roads. What we can do is either train people to be sensible and responsible on roads as well or bring such awareness through such integrations in vehicles.

It’s high time that we should modify how indicators can be used to solve current problems faced on Indian roads!!

I agree there is no fool proof solution for accidents but that doesn’t mean that we can’t avoid them.

Well that’s an optimistic idea. People would not opt for this by themselves. ( and get embarrassed of their driving)
But this can be started with cabs wic tend to make these sort of harsh turns. And provide or accumulate this information for the cab companies to assess driving style of driver

    Hope I make sense

Ideally indicators must be switch on 10 -15 s before the you make turn. It is done to give enough reaction time to others. Won’t this system cause too many false alarm if one is snaking through traffic esp. at signal.

This problem can be solved by integrating the system with the speedometer of the vehicle. The buzzer will turn on only if the speed exceeds a minimum value, say 20 kmph.

    Idea is awesome.
I particularly liked the collection of people data . Def it will be HUGE take for government.
As everyone mentioned, Nothing is proof solution.

The basic root cause is always the drivers on the road were not properly trained to use their vehicle. Hope Indian government comes with Drive testing simulator, where people were tested with simulator rather than with people. so they learn basic thing properly.
